Bob Marley goes to Hollywood!

Someone is finally doing it. Yes! After more than 25 years after his death, Reggae Icon, Bob Marley’s story is on its way to the silver screen.

Independent American film studio, The Weinstein Company has acquired the rights to develop, produce, and distribute the first ever biopic about Marley. The film is expected to begin production in 2009. This will be based on his widow Rita’s autobiography, “No Woman No Cry: My Life with Bob Marley.”

Marley Fever!
Apparently there is something in the air, call it Marley fever if you will. Even just last month Academy Award Winning director, Martin Scorsese announced plans for a documentary about Bob Marley.

Well I am looking forward to see how this all turns out. I suspect we can expect to hear some great music in these films. But I do hope they will have Jamaicans with real Jamaican accents playing the parts. Quite frankly, I am tired of seeing too many movies with American actors butchering the Jamaican accent.

Even though I am a Marley fan, (a fact that those who read this blog would have already known) I am partially excited and at the same time a bit skeptical about how well this will all translate to film. But I wait and see. I am really curious though about who will be playing lead role. I would probably use one of his kids to play the part but hey I am no film director….
Anyway, the Reggae King just keeps getting more famous. Lets face it, Bob Marley is even bigger than ever in death than he was in life.

Peace and Love
Duane
