Satta Masagana -A Jamaican Reggae Classic
Regarded by many as one the most influential reggae songs ever Satta Masagana is said to be the first really African Oriented roots Reggae song. The bassline created by former Heptones singer Leroy Sibbles is one of the most versioned of Reggae basslines.
The song was recorded by the Abyssinans in 1969 but really started doing well in 1971. Satta Massagana is partially written Ethiopian Ahmaraic language.
According to Words of Wisdom Satta amassagana ahamlack, ulaghize is usually translated as “Give thanks to God continually”. Strictly, however, this is not quite accurate Amharic, for the vowels in amassagana are mispronounced. More properly, it should be ames-seggene.
Whatever it means, this cool mellow Reggae song is one of the great vintage reggae songs of rich Jamaican culture. It also ranks among one of my all time favorites. I am loving this is classic vintage Jamaican music here.
