Bling Preacher!
Bling preacher spouts silky smooth words from my TV,
As week after week he speaks of wonderful prosperity.
Messages become less and less about Salvation,
Sermons no longer talking about healing a foul nation,
At the end of each program, less than subtly put,
With a big grin he says, “Y’all need to buy my book.”
Decked out in Armani suits, and platinum rings,
See him getting some celestial bling.
Messages once genuine have now become warped
“Its about the Benjamins Baby” while later I get to the golden harps.
Ministry team /entourage that would make a rap star envious
Questionable motives now, quite ominous,
Now I am not one to judge just questioning,
Wondering about the messages he is delivering.
At the end of the day the “bling” wont mean a thing,
It wont be about how loud you shout or turn and spin.
But what’s in the darkness will become exposed,
And if he is fooling folks, the Good Lord knows.
It’s selflessly serving the Lord who made you,
With all your heart and always being true.
Many times I have sat down and questioned the way televangelists do their thing. The way they portray their messages. I have often wondered why so many preach messages steeped in finances. After a time I get the “vibe” that they are more interested in cash and a large fancy church building than saving souls.
Now I am no biblical scholar nor am I versed in theology, I can only write about the perception I get when I sit in front of my television set. I am all for someone being wealthy regardless of his profession but when you are going to make it seem as if you are peddling salvation, I am going to get a little bit wary.
This poem was written with those things in mind. I tried not to end it on a negative note though as in tried to leave “a what really matters” message in the last few lines. So that’s my take, feel free to post your comments and please pull no punches.
