Sing a Sad Song
It never ceases to amaze me how people love sad songs. What is it about a heartbreak song that makes people love it so? Maybe it”s because many of them sound like they were written from the heart and everyone at some point in their life can relate to at least one.
I remember years ago I had an experience with sad songs that I will never forget. I had just broken up with a girlfriend and was really feeling down (no actually lower than that, I would have had to make a long climb upwards to get to down). But you know you put on your best face and you go on out to work. Of course half way through the day there was like one hour of every conceivable heartbreak song being played on the radio. I tell you that disc jockey had it in for me that day. Talk bout salt in an open wound. Then when this poor boy couldn’t take it anymore I had to get up from my desk and disappear for a while.
I mean they played them all from Sukiyaki to Ain’t no Sunshine ( for those of you who know those all time classics) Man if I ever get my hands on that disc jockey….
Anyway it was then I was able to truly understand why Neil Diamond could record a song such as “Red Red Wine” but they didn’t allow drinking on the job. Never again! If I hurt I don’t want to hear a sad song… That’s just wrong, unnecessary torture. No way man! That’s just wrong
